Veneers
Veneers are aesthetically thin and natural looking crown-like porcelain or resin covers that are cemented directly onto the visible surface of your teeth. Unlike crowns, veneers do not cover all surfaces of a tooth and are not made to withstand heavy mastication. However, they involve minimal preparation/reduction of the existing tooth structure without compromising the aesthetic advantages. Veneers can be used to reshape or cover up minor imperfections.
Benefits of veneers include:
- Straightening the look of crooked teeth
- Covering up large gaps between teeth
- Reducing the look of “gummy smiles”
- Correcting bite alignment
- Fixing large chips in teeth
- Protecting teeth enamel from further staining and decay
Veneers are created from molds of the tooth or teeth after they have been shaved and smoothed down. Once the veneer is fabricated (which takes about a week or two) they will be permanently bonded to the tooth. Veneers are always created to match the shade, transparency and shine of the teeth next to them. With proper care, veneers can last on average up to five years.
Before You Come In:Please arrange a consultation with the doctor or ascertain the best, most cost effective solution to your dental issue. Some gaps are too large to be covered by veneers and may instead require orthodontic treatment. The tooth or teeth to be covered must be in good condition with enough enamel and dentin left to support a veneer.
What You Can Expect Afterwards: Enjoy your new radiant smile! Maintain your veneers by avoiding hard or sticky foods.
